Shadow Of Veles

As if all this was something more
Than another footnote on a postcard from nowhere
Another chapter in the handbook for exercises in futility

- Mgła, Exercises In Futility VI

The initial idea for Shadow Of Veles was a purely instrumental endeavor. But soon enough, it became clear that something was missing - lyrics and vocals became an essential part of the vision.

The project began in 2020, leading to the debut release The Way to Veles in 2021. One year later came Nothingness, marking a step forward in songwriting and production quality. In 2023, the original concept came full circle with an instrumental version of The Way to Veles and the release of the instrumental EP Love.Hate.Misery, which tells a story purely through the music.

2024 was a quiet year, with time to write, refine, and improve.

Then, in early 2025, Lost was released - the third full-length album and the most successful so far. But the story didn’t end there. As new material emerged, it became clear that the narrative of Lost was not yet finished. The EP Fragments, released later the same year, picks up where Lost left off - both emotionally and sonically.

Behind the Scenes

The lyrical themes explore death, hate, misanthropy, and most prominently: nihilism. Musically, Shadow Of Veles draws influence from Black Metal bands such as Mgła, Gorgoroth, Harakiri For The Sky, and Sargeist - as well as non-Black Metal acts like Gojira and Insomnium.

Subtle symbolism and layered references are woven throughout the songs-both within the lyrics and in the song titles themselves.

Every aspect of the project is DIY:

  • Recording
  • Mixing and Mastering
  • Releasing
